What are peoples views on getting babies ears pierced?

I wanted to get my daughter's ears pierced so she wouldn't remember the pain. I changed my mind only because I thought about how excited I was when my mom said I could get my ears pierced. It is not a cruel act because as long as you take care of her ears, it shouldn't be that painful. Your baby is probably in more pain and discomfort with gas. (That is not as directed to you as it is to other people who have answered) If the child gets older and doesn't want earrings, they can always take them out. I think it's adorable when baby girls have their ears pierced.
