Can i apply for a fixed term job (24 months) with the intention of leaving after 10-12?

I have seen an excellent job vacancy that is really suited to me but it is for a fixed term of 24 months. Could i apply, saying i will work for the entire 24 months and then jut leave after about a year? Any drawbacks to this? I could just say ive been offered an unexpected university place and then quit. What do you think?
