Twilight eclipse question?

in the scene where jacob is explaining imprinting to bella and he tells her he has a direct line to Sam's thoughts, and she says "so you're still you" and jacob said back to her. i know when jacob says it he means that shes still human right? but what does bella mean when she says it to jacob? how would he still not be him self? sorry for it sounding confusing :S thanks
